Cafes have changed dramatically since the introduction of coffe shop in the 17th century. Nowadays the expression cafe can be used to describe a massive range of establishments and at UKinsuranceNET we have a range of business insurance schemes to cover them all. Examples of Cafes we have or can cover cover can be found below:-
The traditional English cafe (sometimes fondly know as the greasy spoon) has suffered a decline in the last few years although it fortunately appears to be stabilising despite the health police trying to outlaw the bacon sandwich. Fish & Chip Cafes were also relatively common but again these appear to be in decline. Those that appear to be on the up and up are the licensed and non licensed continental cafes and in particular coffee shops. Although the style of these cafes is dramatically different their commercial insurance requirements do not differ significantly. The main differences with regards to insurance requirements are:-
The above factors can effect the premium but the core requirements remain the same. PL & EL, Buildings insurance, cover for stock, business contents and fixtures & fittings. The range of policies we offer are offered on a pick n mix principal whereby you can choose as many or as few covers as you require therefore ensuring you are not over insured.
Coffee shops and Cafes appear to be experiencing something of a renaissance. A few years ago there were very few places to get a coffee on the high street now as well as the ubiquitous chains such as Starbucks, Costa & Nero there are individual coffee shops and continental cafes springing up almost daily. This has seen us shift away from our more traditional business of providing pub and hotel insurance. We have found a massive increase in the demand for café and restaurant insurance to meet this demand we at UKinsurancenet have developed a range of café and coffee shop insurance policies in conjunction with our insurers.
Although targeted at cafes and coffee shops we can also use this policy to provide restaurant insurance and takeaway insurance although the use of deepfat fryers can result in higher premiums we have found that this is particularly the case when arranging insurance for chip shops.
Most policies will provide cover for the major perils for the structure of the buildings such as fire, earthquake, lightning and flood. Public liability cover is generally included as standard although care must be taken if a customer trips over a carpet the buildings public liability would not cover this. In this instance the claim would have to be met from the contents liability.
If you own the building in which your café is located you will also need commercial landlords insurance cover. This amongst other things can provide loss of rent cover for up to 48 months should you let any part of your building.
If your café is licensed or you have other businesses which are licensed then you may wish to add an extension to your café insurance policy that is most commonly found in nightclub insurance policies or pub insurance policies and that is cover for loss of license.
