Contents Insurance, the majority of people using this expression are intending to cover the contents of their home against loss or accidental damage. There are a number of extensions available to a home contents policy most notably personal possessions cover. Personal possessions cover is intended to provide cover for items that you may take outside the home such as jewelry, mobile phones, MP3 players and other electrical devices. However in addition to home contents insurance we also offer.

Some confusion can arise as to exactly what is buildings and what is contents. Broadly speaking contents are something that can be easily removed from the premises IE a kitchen table, but not fixtures and fittings i.e. kitchen units.

We offer quotes sourced from a comparison of insurance companies. Cover can be provided with buildings insurance or bought as a stand alone policy.

If you are renting a property the landlord will normally cover the buildings and their own contents but you must provide your own contents cover normally through a tenants contents policy. Students may be able to cover their possessions by extending their parents home insurance.

If you require business cover or cover for you office please visit our business contents insurance page.

Contents insurance although not a statutory obligation is a sensible precaution to take regardless for your circumstances. The majority of claims relating to contents insurance are for accidental damage followed closely by theft with the largest claims generally being flood or fire related.

Remember high value items such as jewellery or works of art generally to be specified to the insurer to ensure full cover. The most commonly used definition of a high value item is something worth more than £1500.

Cover away from home is generally excluded unless you select this as an optional extra. This cover can be particularly useful for small high value items such as Mobile phones or Ipods.

Your possessions are covered through contents insurance, as well as belongings of your family that live in the same household. Others may be included, dependent upon the specific insurance policy.

Landlords should make sure that any possessions that are included in home rentals are covered by Commercial Contents Insurance. Tenants should have coverage for all of their non-rented possessions.

Contents insurance is valid in case of weather damage, fire, and crime such as theft and vandalism. Accidental damage is not usually covered but policies can usually be modified so that all risks are included. This may be a good option for persons at high-risk and families, such as those with children or pets. The policy should cover the cost of replacing your possessions (new for old), not the current value of the items (indemnity).
